By Yossi Sheriff

Hane goshi, Spring hip throw, (הנה גושי, הקפצת ירך - הטלה) is a Judo throw that is classified as a hip throwing technique.

Hane goshi is an important throw that is similar in many martial systems. It involves putting the opponent on the hip by pulling him hard toward your side. At the time when the opponent is on the hip the same side leg is bended a little, while the hands make a pulling movement forward and down. The footage shows Hane-Goshi. while in Harai-Goshi the leg is swinged in order to execute the final stage of the throw, in Hane-Goshi Tori's leg is placed with a slight bend over Uke's knee, then when executing the throw it bears some of Uke's weight and helps rolling Uke over Tori's hip. the rest of the features, namely Kumikata (grip) and Kuzushi (off balancing the opponent) stay the same.
