This Iaido kata is a Japanese sword drawing kata standardized by the Japanese Kendo federation in the late 20th century.
Description of Tsuka-ate, fourth sword drawing kata
- Swordsman sits with right knee of the ground (tate hiza).
- Swordsman rises on his left knee and hits a front seated opponent with the hilt of his sword (tsuka kashira). The blow is aimed at the solar plexus (suigetsu).
- The swordsman now draws the sword and thrusts it into an opponent seated behind him, pivots on his left knee and kills the temporarily stunned front opponent with an overhead downward strike.
- Swordsman than shakes the blood off the blade to the side (yoko chiburi).
