Timing
Timing in martial arts and in martial sports denotes the onset of a technique, in relation to the execution of a technique by an opponent. On the AKBAN wiki timing is also a meta perspective which means it is work in progress, an attribute, of many techniques.

Different timings in fighting
The start of a technique can be spaced in time in three basic modals - before the opponent initiates a technique (1st Timing), during the opponent's technique (2nd Timing) and after the opponent's move has been executed (3rd Timing).
There are at least four more timings in use in the martial arts world but their taxonomy is out of the scope of this wiki article.
The 1st timing, before the opponent's attack, carries with it implications that tar its use in self defense situations. It's apparent advantage in street fights and against multiple opponents is diminished by it's possible interpretation as an act of aggression.
The 2nd timing, after the opponent's technique, is a prevalent timing used in many Krav maga and self defense centered systems. Using it is within legal and moral bounds, but having to wait for a random and possibly lethal technique to react on, is a major disadvantage.
The 3rd timing, synchronized simultaneously with the opponent's attack, is used by experts master to cause loss of rhythm and tempo in the opponent's attack. Being able to use the 3rd simultaneous timing together with being able to use the 2nd timing is the mark of a high level practitioner.
